Three small producers, one cellar door
Bondar Wines is a small family operation run by winemaker Andre Bondar and Selina Kelly from their vineyard on McMurtrie Road, McLaren Vale. The Bondar cellar door sits inside a shared house in the vineyard alongside two other small McLaren Vale producers - Lino Ramble and Sherrah Wines - a low-key set-up that is one of the best ways to meet three small winemakers in a single visit.
The wines
Bondar's flagship is the Higher Springs Shiraz, grown from the home block on the sandy rise at the back of the vineyard. The range also includes fiano, grenache and a mediterranean-leaning mataro - all made in small batches with minimal intervention. The Lino Ramble and Sherrah ranges pour alongside, so tasting flights cross all three labels.
Visiting
- Open Friday to Monday (check hours - this is a small operation)
- Bookings essential, especially for groups of six or more
- Tastings take place in the shared house in the vineyard
- No full kitchen - a small cheese and charcuterie board is available
