A small sand-and-rock beach between Port Elliot and Middleton, best known as one of the most consistent surf breaks on the south coast.

The surf break

Chiton Rocks is one of the longest-running surf breaks on the Fleurieu - a reef break that works in almost any swell direction and holds a crowd of regulars from Victor Harbor and Port Elliot all year round. The Chiton Rocks Surf Life Saving Club has been at the beach since 1950 and hosts competitions through summer.

The beach

The beach itself is small - a sheltered pocket of sand and rock between Port Elliot and Middleton, easily reached from the carpark at the end of Surfers Parade. Swimming is not advised outside of patrolled hours because of the reef and rips, but the rock pools at low tide are some of the best on the south coast.

Getting there

A short walk along the foreshore from Middleton or a five-minute drive east from Horseshoe Bay at Port Elliot. Parking is limited and fills up on summer weekends.
